At 33, Antonio Margarito (full name Antonio Margarito Montiel) has had an eventful if controversial boxing career to date. After making his debut at 15, the three times welterweight world champion has become a force to be reckoned with in recent years. One of the highlights of his career has included winning the WBO welterweight title in 2002, when he managed to defend the title for seven successive fights.
In 2008 he won the WBA title against defending champion Miguel Cotto with a TKO in the eleventh round.
2009 saw Margarito involved in controversy at the time of his fight with Shane Mosley when he was found to be using handwraps which had been hardened. Margarito remains adament he was unaware of the doctored wraps, and is now back in action after being previously banned from boxing in the USA.
