The 28-year-old suffered a shock defeat to Orlando Salido in April 2011, when he relinquished his WBO World crown. Lopez was no match for his unfancied opponent, who upset the odds with an eighth round stoppage.

Lopez has since returned to beat Mike Oliver with a second round knockout to win the Interim WBO Latino Featherweight Championship.
