Unbeaten Welshman Nathan Cleverly is the current WBO World Light
Heavyweight Champion.
Born in Caerphilly, Cleverly started his professional career in
2005 with a points win over Ernie Smith. He went on to become one
of the most promising British fighters of the mid-noughties before
earning a 2008 tilt at the vacant Commonwealth Light Heavyweight
Championship.
Cleverly won the all-British bout on a unanimous points decision
and went on to win the British Light Heavyweight belt the following
year against Danny McIntosh, extending his record to 17 - 0 in the
process.
The unstoppable Welshman achieved European success in 2010,
winning the EBU Light Heavyweight Championship against Antonio
Brancalion before turning his attention to the WBO belt in the same
year.
Cleverly first defeated German Karo Murat in a WBO Championship
eliminator before securing the belt against Frenchman Nadjib
Mohammedi in December 2010. This capped a highly impressive year
and advanced his run to 21 straight wins.
The Welsh fighter has defended his WBO crown three times, with his
most recent bout - LIVE on BoxNationTV - a homecoming title defence
against American challenger Tommy Karpency.
Recently, competition winner Craig Durrent got the opportunity to meet the Champion Nathan Cleverly. See what they got up to here!
