14th April 2012 - Split decision loss to Brandon Rios
Richard Abril is a Cuban lightweight with a 17 - 2 - 1 record. Abril has formerly held a handful of regional titles, but his most significant achievement to date came in October 2011 when he beat Miguel Acosta to win the WBA World Interim Lightweight Championship.
29-year-old Abril, currently based in Miami, Florida, United States, has suffered two career defeats. These both came via slender split decision results against Breidis Prescott and Henry Lundy in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
The 5ft 11in Cuban returned from those defeats with six straight wins, which earned him an April 14th shot at Brandon Rios and the WBA World Lightweight Championship.
We came to you live from Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, as Abril lost to a split decision depsite appearing to have the best of the fight.
