Gervonta Davis will make the first defence of his IBF World Super-Featherweight Title against Liam Walsh at the Copperbox Arena in London on Saturday 20th May.
The 22-year-old American is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in World boxing, fighting under the Floyd Mayweather banner and will showcase his talent overseas for the first time.
Cromer’s Walsh earned his mandatory status to fight for the IBF World Title with a convincing and classy display, earning a landslide victory over Andrey Klimov back in October.
Then Champion Jose Pedraza took a voluntary defence of his Title against rising star Davis and was sensationally dethroned in January this year by the ‘Money Team’ star.
Now sitting pretty at 17-0 with 16 of those wins coming inside the distance, ‘The Tank’ travels to the U.K for his maiden defence.
It’s been a long overdue shot at World honours for Walsh, who had previously been scheduled to fight for the World Title but had to pull out due to injury.
The battle of the southpaws has all the makings to be a fan-friendly affair which has already gained traction across social media.
An intriguing subplot of this World Title fight is the battle of the promoters, Mayweather v Hall-of-Famer Frank Warren but that will not detract from the main event spectacle on offer at the Copperbox.
