Former WBO World Cruiserweight Champ Enzo Maccarinelli records a fortuitous win over Shane McPhilbin to secure the British Cruiserweight title.
Controversy reigned during the first round of the fight after the Welsh legend suffered a shock knockdown. With Maccarinelli struggling to regain his composure and a stoppage for McPhilbin looking imminent, the round was ended 47 seconds prematurely, granting the rangy Welshman a much-needed reprieve.
Maccarinelli was once again downed in the third, and looked decidedly uncertain throughout the opening few rounds as the then British champion looked capable of securing a knockout at any stage.
The veteran fighter did recover, somewhat, to establish himself in what became a very scrappy affair. Maccarinelli's growing influence on proceedings led to McPhilbin suffering a ninth-round knockdown.
But it was the scorecards that would ultimately decide this one, with the judges scoring it 115-111, 116 - 111, 115 - 110 all to Maccarinelli, who secures his first ever British title.
