The British Heavyweight Title

Heavy hitters collide at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Sports Centre on October 6th, with a tasty British Title fight topping the bill, promoted by MTK Scotland.

Gary Cornish (24-1, 12 KOs) meets Sam Sexton (23-3, 9 KOs) for the vacant British Heavyweight crown. Since his defeat to Anthony Joshua, Cornish has recorded three wins on the scorecards over Kamil Sokolowski (twice) and Tomas Mrazek.

This will be Sexton’s first fight since July 2015. The Norfork Heavyweight’s only defeats have come to David Price and Dereck Chisora (twice).

Cruiserweight contest

Stephen Simmons (17-2, 7 KOs) was due to take on Matty Askin for the British Title, but Askin suffered an injury so had to pull out.

Now the Scot faces Simon Barclay (9-1, 1 KO) for the IBF European Cruiserweight Title.

Simmons fought for the WBO International Title in October 2016 but lost on a split decision against Noel Gevor (21-0 at the time) in Germany.

Flyweight contest

Triple-Olympian Paddy Barnes (3-0, 1 KO) also fights on the show after winning his first three bouts as a professional. Last time out, the Flyweight edged past veteran Romanian Silvio Olteanu on a majority decision in Belfast.
