Destructive punchers Matthysse and Provodnikov go to war
It's one of boxing's most mouthwatering clashes of the year as
big punching stars Lucas
Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov go head to head.
Between them, Argentina's Matthysse and Russia's Provodnikov
have 51 knockouts from 67 fights, and have been involved in some of
world boxing's most memorable tear-ups in the last few years.
It'll be blink-and-you-miss-it stuff at the Turning Stone Resort
and Casino, New York, when these two former world champions collide
in a fight of the year contender.
Matthysse rose to prominence after winning an the interim WBC
World Light-Welterweight title in 2012 against Ajose Olusegun. The
followin year, the Buenos Aires banger took out Lamont Peterson
with a third round TKO to underline his credentials. Later that
year he failed in a bid to wrest away the WBA and WBC World titles
from Danny Garcia, but there's no questioning Matthysse pushed
Russia's Provodnikov shot to fame when he was involved in 2013's
fight of the year, an all-out war with Timothy Bradley, narrowly
losing a split decision.
The 31-year-old has a win over fellow banger Mike Alvarado on
his record and will be keen to add a big name like Matthysse in a
