A Cruiserweight Contest

Welsh fighting star Enzo Maccarinelli flew to Moscow, Russia for his bout with legendary American Roy Jones Junior where Maccarinelli hoped to get the 41st win of his career.

Enzo Maccarinelli

Enzo Maccarinelli was facing a boxer clearly past his best, but that didn't stop Jones Jr from stepping up against the taller Welshman and extend his mammoth career that's seen him win world titles in four weight categories, and total up 70 fights, with 62 wins (45 KO). Roy Jones Jr is also the only boxer to have started his career as a light-middleweight and go on to win a world heavyweight title.

Into the action, Maccarinelli came out from the first bell strong, and the first 3 minutes saw them dance around the ring with Enzo landing a few punches that warned the American-Russian of what might be to come.

Into rounds 2 and 3, and Swansea born Maccarinelli pushed Roy Jones Jr back onto the ropes and then kept him at the end of his long reach, threatening his opponent, but without too much damage. Jones did what he does best and landed a number of his own counter punches off the ropes, and his tight defense made it difficult for the former WBU and WBO World Cruiserweight Champion to find his target.

Into the fourth, and this time Maccarinelli made it through the guard of Roy Jones Jr to land a terrific uppercut that rocked him on his feet, and a follow up punch sent him down onto one knee. Maccarinelli took his opportunity and attacked, with a right uppercut stunning Jones Jr, and then an over the top right hand catching Jone Jr by his left ear and sending him face first onto the canvas.

For Jones Jr this wasn't the dream finish he'd have hoped for as he wraps up an incredible career that's granted him legendary status in the boxing world. For Enzo Maccarinelli - he'll now look ahead to future opportunities and hope that a world title fight presents itself soon.
