Sunny Edwards will make the first defence of his WBO European Super-Flyweight Championship against Ryan Farrag at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Friday 26th October, live on BoxNation.
Londoner Edwards, 22, won the vacant belt last November when he dropped Scottish rival Ross Murray twice before ending the fight in four rounds.
Edwards (8-0, 3 KOs) is ranked 14th by the WBO, whose World Title is vacant after Donnie Nietes and Aston Palicte boxed a draw earlier this month.
There is no doubt that Liverpool’s Farrag (19-3, 5 KOs) is the toughest and by far the best opponent Edwards has faced in his professional career.
Farrag claimed the English Bantamweight crown in December 2014, stopping Ash Lane in seven rounds. 10 months later he caused a huge upset in Belgium, knocking out world-ranked local hero Stephane Jamoye to capture the vacant European Title.
Unfortunately he ran into talented Frenchman Karim Guerfi in his first defence in June 2016, losing inside three rounds. Since then he has also fallen short in a British Title fight against current WBA World Champion Ryan Burnett, losing on points in October 2016.
Farrag, 30, has dropped down in weight to the 115lb division and since the loss to Burnett he has won three on the spin and now trains in Marbella.
Whoever wins this fascinating clash will be in the World Title picture.
Also on the stacked MTK bill, Cuban Neslan Machado (14-0) will fight for the WBA International Super-Bantamweight strap.
A third title fight on the card sees big ticket selling local fighter Sam McNess (9-1) challenging Portsmouth’s Michael McKinson (14-0) for the WBC Silver International Welterweight Title.
