The WBO Interim Middleweight Title

Unbeaten Tommy Langford fights avoided puncher Avtandil Khurtsidze for the Interim WBO World Middleweight Title on Saturday 22nd April live on BoxNation from the Leicester Arena.

The winner will take a big step forward in fighting for the full World Title held by Billy Joe Saunders during the second half of 2017. Not too far from Langford’s adopted home in West Bromwich, the Baggies bomber (18-0, 6 KOs) headlines the show with an intriguing undercard to support.

Standing in the opposing corner to Langford is the American-based Georgian Khurtsidze, who boasts just two defeats during a 14-year pro career, one of which came to current WBA Interim titlist Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. Seven of the last eight fights for the explosive Middleweight have ended inside the distance, taking Khurtsidze’s record to 32-2-2 (21 KOs).

Khurtsidze is famed for his power along with his size, being listed as 5’4, giving Langford a significant height advantage in the contest, which could be one of the telling factors on the night.

At 27, Tommy has picked up the WBO Intercontinental, Commonwealth and more recently the British Title in his rise to 18-0. With Championship rounds in the bank in recent outings, this will stand him in good stead for his upcoming bout against the man nicknamed ‘Mini Mike Tyson’.

On the undercard, Tyrone Nurse (34-2-1, 7 KOs) defends his British Super-Lightweight Title against Joe Hughes (15-2, 6 KOs) and local lad Jahmaine ‘Smasher’ Smyle (14-4-2, 6 KOs) makes the second defence of his English Super-Middleweight strap against unbeaten Londoner Darryl Williams (14-0, 6 KOs).

Another local man aiming to impress is Lyon Woodstock Jr (8-0, 4 KOs) who challenges Paul Holt (6-3, 2 KOs) for the Midlands Area Super-Featherweight strap.

Bantamweight bruiser Zolani Tete (24-3, 20 KOs) fights Arthur Villanueva (30-1, 16 KOs) where the winner will be in line to face WBO World Bantamweight Champion Marlon Tapales.

Elsewhere KO king Anthony Yarde (9-0, 8 KOs) will be looking to extend his unbeaten record into double figures and Heayvweight Daniel Dubois makes his second pro appearance.
