History repeats itself, as Astana Arlana Kazakhstan and Cuba Domadores both emerged from their WSB semi-final matches to face each other in the World Series of Boxing finals, live on BoxNation.
The rivalry will mean the two nations fight in a third final against each other, with Cuba coming out on top in 2015, and Kazakhstan victors in 2017. The thrilling trilogy continues on September 26th.
The classy Cubans proved their ability in the semis with a comprehensive second leg 5-0 whitewash over France's Fighting Roosters, after a close fought first leg that ended 3-2 to the Domadores. Light-Flyweight Damian Duarte and Bantamweight double Olympic Champion Robeisy Ramirez set the tone in the second leg opening bouts, scoring for the finalists. A KO made it 7-2 on aggregate, and a towel thrown from the French corner of Sylvian Luce as he fought Erislandy Savon completed the unbeaten night to keep Cuba Domadores' trophy chances alive.
In the second round of semi-final matches, the British Lionhearts were knocked out of the competition by Astana Arlana. A close first leg gave the Kazakh's a slender 3-2 lead, which was all they needed going into the second leg in front of home support. Lionhearts’ stole the first point, with Will Cawley beating Kazakh Saken Bibossinov, yet lost the four remaining contests of the evening to the reigning Champions despite some very tight bouts, cementing Kazakhstan's place in the finals.
