Heavyweight gold medallist Evgeny Tischenko embarks on his professional career this Sunday afternoon in Ekaterinburg, live on BoxNation.

The Russian hit the headlines after his controversial win at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro two years ago.

When Tishchenko was announced as the winner over Kazakhstan's Vasily Levit via unanimous decision, the crowd jeered the result.

In the same tournament, Ireland's Michael Conlan also suffered a disputed loss, leading to his infamous criticism of the sport's governing body International Boxing Association.

Earlier this year the International Olympic Committee revealed that boxing is at risk of being kicked out of the 2020 Tokyo Games due to concerns about AIBA.

An elegant southpaw with a powerful left hook, Tischenko had a decorated amateur career. Prior to his Olympic gold, he won World honours in 2015. In 2017 he retained his European crown, when beating Great Britain's Cheavon Clarke in Ukraine.

With the Heavyweight division thriving, the 27-year-old could be fast-tracked through the paid ranks to throw his name into the mix.
