Heavy-hitting Light-Heavyweight Artur Beterbiev could be in line to face the winner of the potential Sergey Kovalev v Andre Ward rematch next year.

The unbeaten Russian faces Isidro Prieto live on BoxNation on Friday, knowing that a victory this week will set up a final eliminator for a World Title shot.

Speaking at an open workout, his promoter, Yvon Michel of GYM, said: “Should Beterbiev win in February, the winner of Ward-Kovalev II would have until September to face him in a mandatory defence.”

Beterbiev, though, remains focused on his next contest despite the lure of a fight against the top fighters at 175lbs in 2017.

“I do not listen to what is said about a possible duel for a title. I am completely focused on the next fight. I never see beyond my next fight,” said the 31-year-old.

“For now, I cannot predict what will happen in the ring. I trained very hard and I gave everything in my preparation. I hope to show what I can do on December 23.”

Kovalev lost his WBA, WBO and IBF Light-Heavyweight belts in November after a razor-thin loss to Ward on the scorecards, and will choose to activate the rematch clause.

In the amateur ranks, Beterbiev defeated Kovalev and will be keen on facing his countryman again in a huge all-Russian World Title fight late next year. He has displayed immense power in his professional career, earning 10 knockouts in his 10 bouts.

“I never give myself a mission to end the fight before the end. It would be interesting for me to reach the limit, to know for myself what I can give in the second part of the fight,” he added.
