British boxing is booming and come April 1 there’s a chance another World Champion from these shores can be added to the growing list of titlists.
Ashley Theophane may now reside in Las Vegas but is a proud Londoner at heart.
The former British Champion gets a shot at a full World Title against Adrien Broner for the WBA World Super-Lightweight crown in the American capital.
“It’s been a long journey. I have to thank Floyd for giving me a chance. I’m proud to be part of the Money Team,” revealed ‘Treasure’ who was speaking at his pre-fight press conference to announce the fight.
“April 1 is going to be a war! Adrien is a Champ, he’s no quitter. We’re going to be going at it!” continued the 35 year old.
After nearly 13 years as a pro and 46 fights later, Theophane has landed his shot at the big time.
“At the end of the day, all boxers have a dream. You have to work hard to get there,” explained Floyd Mayweather’s stable mate.
Six victories on the spin under Mayweather’s guidance has seen Theophane resurrect his career after close defeats to Pablo Cesar Cano and Darren Hamilton.
Despite his detractors, Broner is now a four-weight World Champion and is looking to make a successful first defence of his title before some potentially lucrative bouts in 2016.
“I know he likes to call me easy money, but trust me this is going to be some hard money! He says he’s going to take me out in four, April 1 we’re going to make this happen,” continued Theophane.
