Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez has told a London press conference he'll prepare for Liam Smith harder than he has in any previous training camp.
Speaking to the assembled media via a translator, the 26-year-old 47-1-1 sensation said he and his team weren't underestimating the reigning WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Smith before their September showdown.
"What can I say? Liam Smith is a great champion. He’s very strong and he’s very hungry.
"We’re going to prepare like never before, knowing what we know about Liam Smith. I can assure you this: we’re going to give the fans what they want to see."
Canelo challenges Smith at 154lbs, just a pound lighter than his recent bouts against Amir Khan, James Kirkland and Erislandy Lara.
The one-time Floyd Mayweather opponent will be the favourite going into the Mexican Independence Day clash, but Liam Smith has vowed he'll go into the fight looking for a knockout to announce himself to the world. Smith's trainer Joe Gallagher told the Canelo team they'd "made a mistake" by choosing to fight the Liverpool star instead of P4P King Gennady Golovkin.
