Fresh from winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Australia last month, Galal Yafai has another important fight coming up.
Tonight he represents the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing semi-final first leg against Kazakhstan Astana Arlans in Sheffield, live on BoxNation.
The WSB is a team competition which bridges the gap between Olympic and professional boxing and is contested by the world’s leading amateur boxers over five three-minute rounds.
Yafai, 25, has a good record in the tournament: "Yeah it's gone well. I've had 10 fights. Won seven out of the 10 so I'm pretty experienced now.
"They're a top team Kazakhstan. They're one of the leading countries in the world of amateur boxing so there's going to be interesting fights. I've got one over Kazakhstan before, so I'm hoping I get another one," the Light-Flyweight told BoxNation.
Team England won a total of nine medals on the Gold Coast, including six golds. "It was good to win [gold at] the Commonwealth Games, lovely to win a gold medal, but I was straight back in the gym," explained Yafai.
"I had a week off. I wanted to do the WSB. There's not a lot left for the rest of the year now so I thought I may as well take what I can get."
On Thursday he faces a tough test against Temirtas Zhussupov, but the Birmingham boxer believes he can continue his winning run.
"He's an experienced fighter - nearly had 20 WSB fights. I'm in for a tough one but I'm more than confident I'll get the win!"
Tune in to BoxNation at 8pm on Thursday 17th May to watch the British Lionhearts v Kazakhstan Astana Arlans. France v Cuba is live at 8pm on Friday night.
