Daniel Jacobs broke an otherwise respectful pre-fight press conference to claim that Peter Quillin is not as big a star as he claims.

Speaking two days before he defends his WBA World Middleweight title against the unbeaten Quillin, cancer survivor Jacobs said his fight against the fellow Brooklynite was the bout that the New York borough had been waiting for.

“I’m privileged to share the ring with Peter Quillin. He’s been on the radar for a very long time. It’s not because he’s this superstar that he claims to be, it’s more that this is a fight that Brooklyn deserves. This is something thank I understand that the Barclays [Center] has been looking forward to for a very long time,” Jacobs said.

“I’m looking forward to that night. I understand what he brings to the table. I’m more than ready for the challenge. You gonna’ see exactly why my late, great trainer Victor Rowntree said I ‘rise to the occasion’,” Jacobs added.

“It’s going to be electric. It’s going to be one of the best fights the Barclay has produced so far. I’m excited about it, let’s go – Team Jacobs.”
