Former Super-Middleweight World Champion Mikkel Kessler has backed Dennis Ceylan to win his European Featherweight Title fight against Ryan Walsh.
The 37-year-old was speaking in an official press release ahead of his countryman’s bout at the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn, Denmark.
“Dennis has a lot of potential. He is technically a very good all-round fighter. He can punch, he can box, and you can tell he’s thinking about what he’s doing in the ring,” he said. “It will be a tough fight for him, but I believe he can do it.
“If Dennis wins this fight, I think he can go all the way. It will be interesting to see how he copes when he’s put under pressure.”
Kessler held WBA and WBC baubles during his career, and shared the ring with the likes of Carl Froch, Andre Ward and Joe Calzaghe. He gave the unbeaten Ceylan some guidance ahead of Saturday’s fight.
“If I could offer him some advice, it would be to keep a cool head and remember what he’s been told in the gym, as no matter how many people there are, and how big the occasion, it’s just him and his opponent in the ring.”
This is the first time since 2010 that a Dane will contest the European Title on home soil and Kessler believes Ceylan can become the next Nordic boxing star.
“It’s a very big fight for Danish boxing, and I hope it gets the attention it deserves. I’m not fighting anymore so there needs to be some new boxers like Dennis ready to step up and follow in my footsteps,” he added.
Walsh will have other ideas as he looks to cap off a memorable week for the family after his brother’s victory last weekend. Watch Dennis Ceylan take on Ryan Walsh live on BoxNation this Saturday at 7pm.
