Vanes Martirosyan may be going into his clash this Saturday night with Gennady Golovkin as a heavy underdog but he will have legendary fight promoter Don King in his corner.

The flamboyant and extravagant King has never been one to talk small and he has been quick to goad Middleweight kingpin Golovkin by promising him a rematch when, as he believes, his man upsets the odds this weekend.

"I promise you Golovkin, we will give you a rematch," said King. "Show them what you can do in losing. The Armenian named Vanes will make history. I want you to know this is a destiny fight!

"This event is a spiritual event. This will be an extremely exciting fight. You can’t knock a fighter like Golovkin. He has the desire to fight on Cinco de Mayo.

"This whole event - I’m glad to be back. Vanes was made the mandatory challenger. We have a great fight here," King said.

Hard-hitting Golovkin, who will be looking to tie Bernard Hopkins’ 20 straight defences of the Middleweight crown, has other ideas though and is out to try and stop Martirosyan, who has never been knocked out, if the opportunity presents itself.

"It will mean a lot but compared to Bernard Hopkins my record is much bigger – stronger and bigger. This is a good situation for me and for my fans and that’s it," said Golovkin.

"This is boxing. Nobody knows. If he gives me a chance to stop him, I will stop him. If not, then I don’t. This is boxing. If we exchange punches and I hurt him, then it can happen [Martirosyan getting knocked out]," he said.

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez also touched upon him equalling Hopkins’ long held record and believes in doing so it will prove a better achievement than what the great Philadelphian did.

"I think it’s great for his history and for boxing history. If you look at his record he hasn’t had any rematches in there. Everybody he fought has been a new opponent. The great Bernard Hopkins fought twice against [Antwun] Echols and three times against Robert Allen," said Sanchez.

"We are fighting new guys every time. By tying it and if he decides to stay at Middleweight and break the record in the future it is great for boxing history and good for historians to look back upon," he said.
