BoxNation viewers who witnessed Devin Haney on the Channel of Champions last year discovered why he is one of boxing’s blue riband prospects.

He launches our first live boxing show of 2019 when he faces fellow unbeaten Lightweight Xolisani Ndongeni in Louisiana on Friday night.

Here is BoxNation’s factfile on the American with superstar potential.

His father, Bill Snr, who manages and trains him is a music executive. His mother, April Clay, works as a hairdresser. Although his parents are close they separated when he was born.

Haney has three siblings - older brother, Bill Jr (27), younger brother, Sean (8) and sister, Arabella (3).

Devin lived in Oakland as child, but his father moved to Las Vegas with him because of what he considered bad outside influences.

He started boxing at the age of seven when his aggression would get him into trouble at elementary school.

When he moved to Las Vegas his father home schooled him. His typical day would begin with a morning run, followed by afternoon strength and conditioning or boxing training. His evenings consisted of schoolwork and reviewing fight films.

As an amateur, Devin won seven National Titles. In January 2015, aged 16, Devin became the youngest boxer to win the Youth World Championships in Reno.

His father has already set up a promotional company and Devin Haney Promotions is one of the co-promoters of Friday’s 10-rounder.

Boxing greats have been wowed by his talent. Floyd Mayweather Sr said: “I’ve not seen a fighter as outstanding as Devin Haney since Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is the next big thing – the future of boxing.”

Roy Jones Jr says: “At only 15, Devin could fight for a World Title and could beat a lot of pros.”

Devin has sparred with some of the best boxers in the world like Floyd Mayweather Jr, Jorge Linares, and Shawn Porter.

His idol outside of boxing is NFL star Marshawn Lynch.
