Hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach has promised that Kazakh middleweight maestro Gennady Golovkin “absolutely kills” Canadian banger David Lemieux when the two collide on 17 October.
Speaking to Fighthub, Roach said “He kills Lemieux whenever he wants.
“I’m not so sure, but I’d like to see him fight a high calibre fighter. I am a big fan of his and I do like watching him. I do study him and there are flaws.”
Roach, who trains WBC Middleweight king Miguel Cotto, said he wanted to see a huge clash between the Puerto Rican and Golovkin to unify the middleweight division, should the Kazakh star dispatch Lemieux as he’s predicting.
“Triple G is a tough fight. The thing is I think he’s a great fighter,” added Roach.
“I don’t know if he’s the greatest fighter in the world right now. I’d like to see him in a little bit of a test, and I think Cotto would do that Cotto would give him a test and then we’d decide who the best fighter in the world is after that.“
He [Golovkin] controls the ring real well. His ring generalship is great. He does cut off the ring well. He’s a good puncher to the body or to the head“
Back in the day when Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns and all those guys were there, maybe he’d be an average fighter, maybe he’d be good,” Roach said.
Kazakh KO king Golovkin has swept aside all 33 of his opponents, 30 by way of knockout, with his razor sharp accuracy and unbridled power punching.
The 33-year-old sensation recently relocated to Los Angeles in a bid to crack the American market, and his four-title unification bout against Lemieux will be his fourth appearance on U.S soil in his last five fights.
