The Kazakh KO King Gennady Golovkin is ready to lock horns with Canelo Alvarez, in a mouthwatering Middleweight unification matchup.
Speaking ringside from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night, Golovkin revealed to ESNews: “He said ‘I am ready to fight’ – This is a big present!”
Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler and Golden Boy will now commence negotiations ahead of a 15 day deadline period before purse bids will be called.
“We have 15 days for business, to plan,” continued Golovkin.
K2’s chief Tom Loeffler had previously called the proposed fight as “the biggest fight in boxing” and fans will be licking their lips at the potential showdown.
Reflecting on Canelo’s huge victory over Amir Khan, the feared puncher had nothing but praise for the proud challenger.
“It was a difficult fight for Khan. I respect him, he’s a warrior. It was not a big surprise for me though, Canelo is Canelo. It was a big shot, this is boxing!”
