Unified IBF and Super WBA Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin has been earmarked to return in April 2016.
K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler spoke to Ring TV before the turn of a fantastic year for the Kazakh KO King.
“Gennady looks like he’s going to fight in April now,” explained Golovkin’s manager.
After an impressive victory over Andy Lee to win the WBO World Middleweight crown Billy Joe Saunders finds himself at the top of Golovkin’s wishlist.
“We’d like to do another unification fight. Billy Joe Saunders would be the first priority to unify the WBO Title but you can’t force people to get in the ring with him.”
Loeffler explained the situation with the WBC and the mandated fight with Canelo Alvarez, which is due to take place in late 2016.
“Canelo just won the title, he gets one fight and Gennady gets one fight then they have to fight or Canelo loses his Middleweight Championship status.”
