K2 Promotions chief Tom Loeffler believes Gennady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez is the biggest fight out there waiting to happen.
“One thing that is clear… If a fight does happen GGG v Canelo it’s the biggest fight in boxing. The demand and interest we’ve seen from arenas, AT&T Stadium in Dallas, The T-Mobile Arena, Madison Square Gardens and The Staples Center have all expressed an interest. It would be a huge fight between two of the best,” revealed Loeffler.
Golovkin is mandated to fight the winner of May 7’s huge fight between Canelo and Amir Khan, should he get through his own fight against Dominic Wade, but speculation is the winner will move down a weight.
“We hope it happens, we can’t speak for Canelo and speculate what will happen,” explained Golovkin’s promoter to ES News.
The Middleweight division is thriving and the potential mouth-watering contest adds to the spice of the 160 lbs division.
“First GGG has to beat Wade, two weeks later its Khan v Canelo. The winner has to fight Gennady or risk getting stripped of the Title. I think Amir Khan took a big step up to fight Canelo, it shows he has a lot of courage. He has a unique style, he can outbox people but can he keep Canelo off?” concluded Loeffler.
