Legendary promoter Bob Arum is enthusiastic about the excitement Manny Pacquiao v Jeff Horn will generate ahead of their July 1st showdown.
Speaking to the Sydney Herald, Arum believes Jeff Horn is set to become a huge star after the Pacquiao fight. “If Jeff Horn, win or lose, performs as well as I think he will, he will end up being a major star in the United States.
“Obviously [Horn] wants to win the fight. But even if he doesn't win the fight and gives the kind of performance that I really believe he's capable of, he will be a major star."
The hall-of-fame promoter is also unwilling to go along with the argument that Pacman’s experience will be enough to see him over the line.
“There are different elements. This kid Horn is big and strong, can take a punch, and [has power]. I believe that he can give a tremendous account of himself and give Manny a lot of difficulty.
“Remember, [Pacquiao] is getting older. An athlete that reaches a certain age does not perform as he did. The question is how old has Manny become?”
For the Filipino superstar there is the risk of complacency, will Manny train as hard for Jeff Horn as he has had to against proven world class opposition? The Top Rank boss is unconvinced: “I talked to Freddie Roach, he sees more in Manny training for this fight than he did with in the previous two fights with Tim Bradley and Jessie Vargas. We'll have to see.”
