Fight preview

Fearsome Middleweight monster Gennady Golovkin puts his WBC, IBF and WBA ‘Super’ World Titles on the line against Daniel Jacobs on March 18th, exclusively live in the UK on BoxNation.

Two of the best in the division meet at the Madison Square Garden in New York in what looks set to be both fighter’s toughest test to date, but the Kazakh star has looked unstoppable in recent displays.

Golovkin’s record (36-0, 33 KOs) makes him the most feared man on the planet and the 34-year-old has walked through previous opposition, forming a streak of 23 straight knockouts.

In October 2015 he added the IBF strap to his collection, convincingly beating David Lemieux, and is eyeing the final belt-holder Billy Joe Saunders. Nobody has held all four major belts in the division since Bernard Hopkins between 2004 and 2005.

‘Triple G’ was last on BoxNation screens when decimating Dominic Wade last April. He then extended his KO streak when stopping Kell Brook five months later.

While the biggest bout to be made in boxing today is Golovkin against Saul Alvarez, rumoured to be planned for September, he cannot risk overlooking Jacobs, who is looking to overthrow Golovkin as the ruler of the division.

Hailing from Brooklyn, ‘The Miracle Man’ (32-1, 29 KOs) also packs serious power and since overcoming cancer in 2011 has formed an impressive K.O streak himself, ending all of his 10 scheduled fights early.

During this run, he picked up the WBA ‘Regular’ Title in 2014 after halting Jarrod Fletcher and has since gone after the toughest fights in the division, telling you all you need to know about his strength of character.

In December 2015 he dismantled then-unbeaten Peter Quillin inside a round, when most experts believed it was an even contest on paper. In his last outing he dropped former World Champion Sergio Mora five times on route to a seventh round KO win.

With negotiations seeming to stall for the Canelo bout, Golovkin will be aiming to take out his frustrations on Jacobs. The pair have 35 consecutive stoppages between them so buckle up for this guaranteed thriller on March 18th.

On the undercard, Roman Gonzalez defends his WBC Super-Flyweight Title and talented Mexican Carlos Cuadras fights countryman David Carmona.
