Mexican knockout artist Oscar Valdez defends his WBO Featherweight World Title this Saturday against Miguel Marriaga. Combined the two fighters have 40 KO’s in 47 fights, Valdez is fully focused on his Colombian adversary but knows if he gets past Marriaga, there are several big fights he could be involved in.

Speaking to FightHub, Valdez talked about his fight this Saturday: “Marriaga is a tough fighter, I’d like to see him fight all those guys [Leo Santa Cruz, Carl Frampton, Lee Selby, Gary Russell Jr.], I don’t care what nobody says, if I beat him it’s because I should’ve beat him…but for me to get the credit I deserve I probably have have to fight one of these guys”.

It’s clear Valdez rates Marriaga highly but knows despite it being a tough fight Marriaga is a relative unknown, he believes he won’t get the recognition until the public sees him step into the ring with what are considered the top guys at Featherweight.

The Mexican native feels like he deserves to be in the mix with these top guys: “I always get mad when they don’t mention me for those big fights, the promoters have to do it, I can keep on saying it. At the end of the day it’s the promoters that make the decisions.”

When speaking about his potential opponents the confident 26-year-old rates himself top of the group. “I have to put myself first, my mentality is always to be number 1. But they’re all tough fighters, I have respect for them they’ve worked hard to achieve their belts.”
