World Title challenger Derry Mathews has laid down the gauntlet to WBA World Lightweight Champion Anthony Crolla insisting “He’s a man who can’t beat me. I’ll beat Flanagan then Anthony Crolla once again to settle the record.”

Mathews takes on Terry Flanagan for the WBO version of the World Lightweight crown on February 13 with the winner in line for a huge North-West derby unification fight with Crolla.

With ‘Dirty Derry’ holding a victory and a thrilling draw against his Mancunian rival in recent years, redemption could be a huge driving factor for Crolla should Mathews pick up the gold in his landmark 50th professional fight.

“I take my hat off to Ant to what he’s done with his career, he’s in a position I want to be,” explained the 32 year old.

Promoter Francis Warren has invited Crolla to attend ringside and watch the fight up close and personal against a potential future opponent.
