Ahead of defending his WBO Welterweight Title live on BoxNation this Saturday, Jessie Vargas is predicting an upset victory over Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.

The 27-year-old, who beat Sadam Ali to become Champion in March, is now widely expected to lose the belt but this does not faze the Mexican-American.

“I do know that I’m the underdog in this fight but what’s changed? I’ve been the underdog in several of my fights and I’ve proven everybody wrong. This will be no different,” he said in an interview with FightHub.

“I’ll show them why I’m champion and why I’m the best in the division. Once I beat Manny Pacquiao there’s no more excuses.”

His Filipino opponent is a pound-for-pound sensation and boxing legend, and much of the pre-fight coverage has been centred on the 37-year-old’s return to the sport. Vargas, though, has not taken any notice.

“When it comes to reports about Manny Pacquiao I really don’t care. I’m focusing on what I’m going to do to him. I want him to show up as the best Manny Pacquiao, that way there will be no excuses.

“This fight means a lot to me because defeating him will show and prove to everyone that I am the best,” he added. “I’m very happy to be in this position. It will be an unforgettable moment for me where a star will be born - that’s the way I see it.”
