BoxNation fan favourite Ovill McKenzie is looking forward to getting a shot at the vacant European Cruiserweight Title.
“I’ve got a big European Title fight coming up, I’m the next challenger. It’s currently in talks,” explained Ovill.
Speaking with Kugan Cassius, McKenzie revealed: “It’s great news for me, Bellew gave the belt up but I’m going to take it with both hands!”
Recent speculation linked McKenzie and Enzo Maccarinelli for a rubber match, but after ‘The Upsetter’ has been called for a Title shot that has understandably cooled.
“It’s off the table for the minute, I’ll win this European Title fight then maybe we can fight for it.”
Last October’s controversial draw with IBF Champion Victor Ramirez is the driving force behind McKenzie’s quest for another shot at World honours.
“I really deserve that shot, I beat Ramirez fair and square. He doesn’t want a rematch but at the end of the day a European Title fight is a step forward to a World Title,” stressed the 36 year old.
Despite entering the later years of a career which has seen the likeable six footer claim British and Commonwealth Titles, McKenzie believes there’s still enough in the tank to fulfil his World title aspirations.
“I’m going to give it four more years and give it everything. I’m hungrier than ever, I know I can be a World Champion… I’m not going nowhere!”
