New Zealand Heavyweight Joseph Parker believes he will defeat Andy Ruiz Jr on December 10th and become the new WBO World Champion.

The unbeaten pair meet at the Vector Arena in Auckland, live on BoxNation. While Parker acknowledges the challenge ahead of him, he is confident of dealing with the Mexican.

“It’s been a short but hard camp, it’s definitely the most focused I’ve ever been,” he said at a press conference this week.

“I think whatever Andy’s going to bring I’ve already prepared for it. Some fighters have put on pressure, tried to throw a lot of punches or chase me down and I was able to keep my distance and control them.”

At 27, Ruiz is three years Parker’s senior and has won 19 of his 29 professional bouts by stoppage. The Kiwi has the higher knockout ratio though, with 18 in 21 contests.

“With Andy, his strengths are coming forward and his fast hands. He’s actually a good mover, he moves his head and protects himself well.

“It can work for him but if he gets too close and walks into a big one it’ll be a good night for me! I’m confident that I can fight anyone at any distance,” added Parker.
