Unified Super WBA and IBF Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin hopes a fight with Canelo Alvarez remains on course for later this year.
Before the proposed fight, Golovkin has a final hurdle when he defends his World Titles this Saturday against unbeaten challenger Dominic Wade, live on BoxNation.
The Kazakh KO King’s promoter Tom Loeffler hinted team Golovkin would be looking to enforce their mandatory position should the flame haired Mexican come through his fight against Amir Khan.
“I have the WBC interim belt, I want the fight now. It’s very important who is number one,” revealed Golovkin.
Speaking with FightHub in the build-up to fight week “Canelo is a good fighter, he knows it’s a serious business. I think he’s ready.”
Canelo v Khan takes place at an agreed 155 lbs catchweight, but Golovkin is determined to fight at the Middleweight limit.
“He’s the same size as me! 155 is a business decision, 160 is Middleweight,” explained the 34 year old puncher.
