Artur Beterbiev has been steamrolling his way through the Light-Heavyweight division and is now just one fight away from achieving his dream of winning a World Title against Enrico Koelling.
Had the fight taken place a few months ago it would be the now retired Andre Ward holding the IBF Light-Heavyweight Title. The Russian fighter speaking to OnTheRopes Radio insists he would be ready whoever he was facing: “[Andre] Ward decided to leave, it is his decision. I was ready for the fight against him or any other opponent for the title.”
The 32-year-old has said a win over Koelling wouldn’t guarantee he was the best in the division, “as for the best fighter in the division, it would be fair to wait until the title fights are over and then organize the fights between the title holders.
“The fans must be excited about this. There are many good fighters in the division, so, hopefully, they will see lots of goods fights in the future... I am ready to face anyone in the division. Kovalev, Stevenson or any other fighter. For the moment I am focused on Koelling only.”
Despite the knockout artists 100% KO ratio, he refuses to be drawn on predictions for the bout: “I cannot predict the result of this fight. I will try to be in the best shape, I must be satisfied with my preparation for this fight. I’m very critical of myself and always set the highest goals. I must prove that I’m ready to show my best skills during this fight.”
