This Saturday Puerto Rican legend Miguel Cotto defends his World Title against Sadam Ali in his farewell bout as the older man tries to bow out with a win over the younger up-and-coming American.

Cotto’s world famous trainer, Freddie Roach, was recently asked by Fighthype what impact there is having a younger fighter challenging an established Champion, “When you mix generations like this things change.

“When you have a younger guys coming up fighting an older fighter it’s very difficult. That’s why we’re training so hard for this fight. We’re going against the younger generation and [Sadam Ali] can box. We’re taking this fight very seriously.”

The hall-of-fame trainer also commented on the emotional weight this fight will have, “I don’t think I’ll cry! But I will miss [Miguel Cotto] for sure. The worst thing is me and him on the phone isn’t too good. We’re both quiet and shy people.”

The retirement of ‘Junito’ also raised the question of the best boxer to hail for Puerto Rico, Roach was quick to give his thoughts: “I’d rate Miguel Cotto as the best [Puerto Rican boxer] of all time but people have opinions but I also like Wilfredo Gomez!” Roach added.
