On September 16th the biggest and best fight in boxing that arguably could have been made takes place as WBC, IBF and WBA ‘Super’ World Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin faces Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Speaking at Monday’s open workout in Los Angeles, the Kazakh KO king revealed how proud he is to be taking part in boxing’s biggest match-up.
“This is a fight boxing can be proud of. It’s boxing’s biggest fight, a fight for history. It is a real Mexican fight. Everyone will remember this fight. Canelo is number one in Mexico, a country known for great fighters. He is very special,” said ‘Triple G’.
This fight is expected to confirm the status of either fighter as both the top of the Middleweight division and perhaps even top of the pound-for-pound lists. ‘GGG’ however is just focused on training as hard possible to combat his Mexican opponent.
“Canelo has looked good and strong in his last few fights. That is why we have worked so hard in training camp. We have worked on new things. This is my biggest fight. I worked hard to become of Champion of the world. I worked hard with Abel [Sanchez] to stay Champion of the world.”
The undefeated Middleweight kingpin is excited to give fans what they want, a toe-to-toe battle between two of the best fighters in boxing: “This is our Mexican Independence Day holiday weekend gift to boxing and to boxing fans.
“The fans have been asking for this fight for years. We are going to give a great battle. This is a fight boxing can be proud of,” he added.
