Tommy Langford admits if a shot at Billy Joe Saunders’ World Title is on the table for December, he wouldn’t have to think twice before accepting.
Saunders, who makes the first defence of his WBO World Middleweight Title against Artur Akavov on Saturday 22nd October in Cardiff, confirmed his intentions to return as soon as December should he come through unscathed.
Langford is focused ahead of his vacant British Middleweight Title fight against Sam Sheedy on the same show in Cardiff, but confessed if the offer is there he’s extremely interested.
Speaking at a press conference to promote his fight with Sheedy, Langford revealed: “I saw the interview with Billy Joe the other day, mentioning a domestic scrap in December. If it’s offered, I’m taking it. I’m not turning it down. It’s a great fight but I can’t look past October 22nd. I’ve got an awkward opponent in front of me first but if that’s there I’m having it.”
The Baggies bomber is currently ranked second in the WBO’s order of merit placing him bang in line for a shot at Saunders.
Promoter Francis Warren added: “Billy’s got to see what happens against Akavov. If you look too far down the line and take your eye off the immediate prize results can slip. Tommy’s ranked #2 with the WBO, I don’t see anyone else in the rankings like N’Dam that would give him problems. It’s something that can be discussed, there’s a lot of ifs or buts first.”
