Ahead of his WBO World Heavyweight Title fight with Andy Ruiz Jr. in Auckland, Joseph Parker has played up the importance of home advantage on December 10th.
The undefeated Kiwi faces Ruiz Jr. at the Vector Arena, and New Zealand’s first ever Heavyweight Title clash will be shown exclusively live in the UK on BoxNation.
“Now that it’s locked in and we know it’s in New Zealand, that’s very important because we have everything set up there - it's fantastic,” Parker told journalists on a media call.
“When we get back we know where our gym is, we know where we’re staying, we have support from family and friends. I believe that familiarity will give me that extra help I need.”
Parker has powered his way to 21 victories as a professional, winning 18 by knockout. He based his training camp in Las Vegas in preparation for this bout.
“When we leave Vegas I know everything will have been done to get me in the best shape I've been in. I'm going to leave everything in that ring,” added the Samoan-born talent.
“I'm over the moon that it’s in New Zealand and I want to put in a good performance for all of our supporters.”
This will be the first time Parker has fought on BoxNation and should he beat his Mexican opponent, then he would be set to defend his new belt against England’s David Haye in 2017.
“I've always said that if I have a great training camp and I believe in myself then I can beat anyone in the world,” he added.
