WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders has been training hard for his September 16th title defense against American Willie Monroe Jr. He’s enjoying a new lease of life under Dominic Ingle in Sheffield and has looked excellent in preparations.

Speaking to ATG Radio the Champion is positive about his camp so far: “Everything is falling into the plan perfectly, I’m feeling fitter and stronger than ever. No excuses.”

The Hertfordshire fighter has been typically vocal about his opponent in the build-up to the fight, and has been unfazed by the war of words between the two, “Willie Monroe is what he is, he’s been at the elite level and he fell short at the elite level by a long margin. I’m going to take over.

"He doesn't get under my skin. I'm the king of mind games. Already I've got under his skin. I don't need that. I'm a true warrior, I've got that gypsy blood in me - I'm bred to fight!”

His opponent ‘The Mongoose’ had an opportunity at the highest level once before against Gennady Golovkin before getting stopped in the sixth, "All he is, is a quitter. He had his big chance to change his life, to change his family's life… and he said to the referee 'I'm done'”
To me, that's not a warrior, that's not a boxer. When it gets put back on him, he hasn't got the heart to deal with me.”

Live on BoxNation the same night as Saunders title defense is the mega-fight between Canelo v Golovkin. Saunders has his eyes firmly glued to the winner if he is successful against Monroe Jr: “I hope Golovkin knocks Canelo out and then I get the chance to upset Golovkin. I know I’ve got it inside, it’s destiny!”
