Jose Ramirez believes that former trainer Freddie Roach being in Jose Zepeda’s corner on Sunday night will make their fight even more exciting.

Ramirez will be roared on by more than 10,000 fans when he makes the second defence of his WBC Super-Lightweight Title against his fellow Californian challenger in Fresno, live on BoxNation.

Roach trained Ramirez for his World Title winning performance against Amir Imam, but they split shortly after. In a bizarre twist Zepeda joined Roach at his Wild Card gym soon after the break up.

Ramirez, who is now trained by Robert Garcia, said: “A trainer can only sharpen someone and can’t change their overall styles. It’s only going to make Jose Zepeda more competitive and sharper. It’s better for the fans. Fans should be excited about that.”

Zepeda believes it works in his favour that Roach knows Ramirez so well, adding: “It’s going to be a war. Freddie told me, ‘He’s an aggressive fighter. He has the will to win and a strong fighter, but he can be outboxed.’”

Even though the big fight is almost here, Ramirez still found time to visit patients at a cancer institute on Thursday and donate 1000 tickets to sufferers and their families.

Some of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to a cancer organisation, and Ramirez said: "I lost my grandpa to cancer a few months ago, and I saw how important it was that he had the love and support of his family.

”If the patient is fighting, then the family should be there fighting as well. I think that's what you are going to see on Sunday".
