Main Events CEO Kathy Duva says that fans may have to wait a little longer for a unification between Sergey Kovalev and Dmitry Bivol.

On March 3rd, both men box in separate bouts at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York, exclusively live in the UK and Ireland on BoxNation.

Kovalev is rebuilding his career after a two tough defeats to Andre Ward, while Bivol is starting to make a name for himself in the Light-Heavyweight division after 10 stoppages in 12 wins.

This weekend, the Russian faces his biggest test against slick Cuban Sullivan Barrera, who only has one defeat on his record coming against Ward.

"I think Bivol needs some time to develop and to develop a following here. He has a [WBA] World Title but Barrera's really going to be the first time he's going to be tested with that title, I think, in a meaningful way," Duva argued at Wednesday's press conference.

"So he's got some work ahead of him. When the time comes and when he's built a following and has that type of audience that will justify the kind of right fee to make that fight, then we'll make that fight."

Duva was then asked whether or not Kovalev would take the fight next, after he faces Igor Mikhalkin: "Sergey's ready to fight [Bivol] at any time," she responded.
