Kevin Lerena says he is not looking past Vasil Ducar, but insists: “I believe I’ll beat him every day of the week.”
The South African star makes the fourth defence of his IBO Cruiserweght Title against the Czech puncher on Saturday (June 8th), live on BoxNation.
Lerena, who has won 22 of his 23 fights, is eyeing the bigger fish in the 200lb division and lining up German star Noel Gevor - last seen losing a controversial decision to Mairis Briedis - after this weekend’s scrap.
Ducar has a MMA background, but is far less experienced in the boxing ring, although he’s unbeaten in eight professional fights with seven wins, six by knockout and a draw.
The 29-year-old is inspired by Andy Ruiz Jr who pulled off one of boxing’s greatest upsets last week when he hammered Anthony Joshua in seven rounds.
He explained: “That fight showed that anything can happen. At Cruiserweight‚ one punch can end a fight. I am 100% prepared. I will do my job and we’ll see.”
With Oleksandr Usyk's move north to Heavyweight, the 200lb class is wide open.
On June 16th, BoxNation bring you another Cruiserweight collision when Dmytry Kudryashov (23-2, 23 KOs) meets Ilunga Makabu (24-2, 23 KOs) for the vacant WBC Silver Cruiserweight Title.
