Kevin 'Two Guns' Lerena says he cannot wait to “hurt” rival Vasil Ducar.
The South African returns to BoxNation for his fourth IBO Cruiserweight Title defence against the Czech puncher in Johannesburg on Saturday 8th June.
Lerena, who has 22 wins in 23 fights, is one of the Cruiserweight division’s rising stars and said: “It’s how I prepare for my fights. I want to beat opponents properly and hurt them.”
Ducar is unbeaten in seven fights, winning six and drawing one and despite being a banger will be a huge underdog next week.
“Fight records can be misleading,” Lerena told HeraldLIVE.
Lerena has been training three times a day for seven weeks and knows the 200lb division is wide open, especially as Oleksandr Usyk and Murat Gassiev have moved up to Heavyweight.
Lerena, who is rated in the division’s top five, added: “He has nothing to lose but a lot to gain, so I've got to be at my best physically.
“Actually, I train hard for everybody; I've got to beat them all, no matter who is in front of me, beat them hard. I cannot afford to look down on him.”
BoxNation viewers got a glimpse of Lerana’s power when he smashed German-based Kazakh Artur Mann in four rounds in March, and given the IBO Champ's recent statements, he is aiming for another early night.
