Exclusive from Las Vegas

Britain has a new World Champion after Randy Caballero failed to make weight ahead of his proposed Title defence against Lee Haskins, elevating the Bristol native from his position of interim Title holder to full Champion.

Caballero tipped the scales at a whopping 123 1/2lbs, remarkably, which would have exceeded the Super-Bantamweight limit let alone the Bantamweight cut off.

Discussing exclusively with BoxNation’s Steve Lillis and James Helder, the ‘Playboy’ was clearly in a state of mixed emotions. The shock and realisation his dream of becoming a World Champion was yet to sink in.

"I don't feel like a World Champion but I can't wait for my first defence to prove to people I'm a worthy, World class fighter."

“It’s very unprofessional of Caballero coming in 5 pounds over. I done everything by the book, I was 100% ready to do the business for the fans back in the UK but it is what it is, I’m going home a World Champion.”

Lee Haskins IBF World Bantamweight Champion

With the fight being called off Haskins will not receive his full purse, though the financials are to be ironed out with Golden Boy promotions which will hopefully cover some of the training camp expenditure and travel costs.

Speaking at the Mandalay Bay shortly after the weigh-in, the 31 year old continued "It would be good to get something little back.”

Team Haskins stood firm after Caballero was stripped at the scales, “They asked if we wanted to make a catch-weight fight but it didn’t make sense to us,” revealed manager Jamie Sanigar.

Haskins, who becomes Sanigar’s second World Champion added “For the first time in his career, we’ll have some big options. After Christmas we’ll evaluate and plan for the first defence.”

“How many Brit’s come to Vegas and win a World Title!”
