Liam Smith and Liam Williams step back into the ring together on October 28th in Newcastle to settle the controversial ending of their first bout where Williams, ahead on all three cards, was pulled out on a bad cut in round 9.
The two have a well documented dislike of each other stemming from the build-up to their first fight, and having previously exchanged trash talk over Twitter.
Tempers flared again yesterday when Williams responded over Twitter to a claim ‘Beefy’ made about being sure he would stop the Welshman.
Smith went even further, saying he would never be able to live down quitting in his hometown of Liverpool.
Some of you williams fans r brilliant, sugar coat it all youse want. I'd get slated in Liverpool if I quit with a cut like that 🤔— Liam Smith (@LiamBeefySmith) August 23, 2017
The rematch is building momentum, and promises to be just as explosive. In their scintillating first fight, Williams started quickly and built up a lead, but the former WBO Champion rallied in the middle rounds before Williams was pulled out by trainer Gary Lockett, with Lockett deeming that Williams’ vision was too impaired to continue.
