Jose Pedraza's team believe size will count when in Saturday’s blockbuster Lightweight unification against Vasyl Lomachenko.

The WBO Champion is a huge underdog when he tackles the brilliant Ukrainian WBA title holder at New York’s Madison Square Garden, live on BoxNation.

But those around him in his camp at the Top Rank gym, Las Vegas, believe one of boxing’s greatest upsets is on the cards.

His stepfather Luis Espada who manages and trains him believes Pedraza will be a lot heavier on fight night than Lomachenko.

Making 135lb will be no problem for the Puerto Rican, but Espada said: “All guys before who fight Lomachenko, they fight in front of him. We never can do that.

"So, the style of Pedraza is good to fight Lomachenko and Pedraza is 135 and real strong.

"We are making 141, 142 right now and the night of the fight, Pedraza might make 148, 149. Lomachenko might make 142, 144."

Pedraza has had a 12-week training camp and spent the second half training in the world’s fight capital, sparring with brothers Diego and Jessie Magdaleno.

He added: "In this camp, we've been using weights to increase his power and we are using a long-range running in the mountains to increase his pulmonary resistance and energy.

"We have a style like Lomachenko – we can move angles and use distance. Pedraza has speed and he's tall like Lomachenko. Pedraza, his IQ in the ring is good, just like Lomachenko.

"Pedraza can fight left and right – that will be a problem to Lomachenko. Both guys are similar."
