Ilunga Makabu expects to blow away Dmitry 'Russian Hammer' Kudryashov when they clash for the vacant WBC Silver Cruiserweight belt in Russia on Sunday afternoon, live on BoxNation from 1pm.
The winner will become the WBC number one contender. That means a crack at the victor of Saturday’s Latvia unification between new WBO Champion Krzysztof Glowacki and Mairis Briedis, where the vacant WBC crown is also up for grabs.
Makabu and Kudryashov are two of boxing’s biggest hitters with 46 of their 47 combined wins coming by KO.
Johannesburg-based Makabu has spent 10 weeks in Romania with trainer Damien Durandt preparing for the explosive make or break fight in Ekaterinburg.
Durandt told Sowetanlive: "We are fighting a top Cruiserweight who is a big puncher.
"Kudryashov lacks endurance, because he has not gone past seven rounds and the longer the fight goes, the stronger Junior becomes.
"Besides that, I strongly believe in Junior's boxing ability. Junior has got speed, power and experience.
"Both fighters have been on the canvas, but I maintain that Junior's hand speed, power and experience will be the deciding factor in this fight. I feel the fight will go a short route in favour of Junior," he predicted.
