Oscar De La Hoya has talked up the chances of Lucas Matthysse being next in line to face Manny Pacquiao, providing the heavy-handed Argentine impresses against Viktor Postol this weekend.
The six-weight world champion turned promoter stated that feared puncher Matthysse could get a chance against Pacquiao as the Filipino star plans his return from a shoulder injury early next year.
"I strongly feel if Lucas Matthysse impresses [against Viktor Postol], he's in line to face Manny Pacquiao next year," said De La Hoya.
"It’s excitement all over it. It’s two Mack trucks clashing together. Manny Pacquiao's style and Lucas Matthysse’s style – it calls for another fight of the year. There’s no doubt about it," added the Mexican promoter.
Matthysse has a second chance at a world title live on BoxNation this Saturday night at 2am as he faces unbeaten technical star Viktor Postol in Carson’s StubHub Center.
Speculation has been rife about possible opponents for Pacquiao, with British ace Amir Khan also heavily linked in recent weeks. "Pacman" has been recuperating from shoulder surgery after suffering an injury while preparing for his big money showdown with Floyd Mayweather in May.
Following his rotator cuff surgery, the eight-weight world champion was said to be out of action for up to a year, making April or May likely target months for his ring return.
