Double-Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams took little time adjusting to the new three-minute rounds, dispatching her Mexican opponent Maryan Salazar in the third round during her Leeds homecoming on Saturday night.
The atmosphere and crowd were electric and clearly loved seeing home fighter Adams back in Leeds, which served as the perfect appetiser for the other home favourite Josh Warrington.
Speaking to iFL TV, the ‘Lioness’ was happy with her performance: “It was good tonight, I enjoyed the three minute rounds, a lot better paced. I had time to pick my shots, settle down and land power shots.”
“I love the fact Salazar came to fight, that’s what I wanted. I wanted someone that was going to have a go and give the crowd a bit of excitement.”
Speaking on her return to Leeds, the Team GB superstar was ecstatic: “It was unbelievable, the crowd and the support was amazing. I’d like to say thank you to everyone that was in the crowd and watching at home. I’d love to [perform at Elland Road with Warrington] both of us on the same bill, Leeds...what a rumble!”
The Olympian isn’t resting on her laurels with a quick return to camp before her next fight, “I’ll be going out to camp next week after my book tour, then it’s back to business [for a late summer fight].”
