Ellesmere Port ace Paul Butler is back on the World Title trail with new trainer Joe Gallagher.

Butler joins stablemate and World Champion Liam Smith at Gallagher’s Gym with another shot at World honours firmly on his mind.

The former IBF World Bantamweight Champion has racked up four stoppage wins on the spin since his sole career defeat to Zolani Tete and is likely to be campaigning at 118lbs once more.

Speaking with The Ring Magazine, Gallagher explained: “I’m aware that Paul was at junior bantamweight for a very long time. It’s OK making weight but the important thing is performing at that weight and Paul will probably be better at the higher weight class.”

Still only 27, the ‘Baby faced assassin’ is currently ranked inside the top 15 with the WBO and has more than one route back to a meaningful fight.

“There are plenty of options in the bantamweight division. You have the winner of Lee Haskins and Stuart Hall, you have Jamie McDonnell, you have Zhanat Zhakiyanov and you have the European champion Karim Guerfi,” revealed Gallagher.

After an initial trial period, Butler has settled into his new surroundings well.

“He gets on with the rest of the lads and I’m pleased to be involved in helping him regain a World Title,” concluded the Ring Magazine trainer of the year.
